[Gayo Daejun 2012] Part 1: The 10 Best Performances

The performances I chose are some of the most creative, most confident, and best-executed performances -- they're strong from top to bottom and side to side. These are the performances that bring out some of the best talent in K-Pop, and that really do a good job of showing it off.

The 5 Best Albums of 2012

There are albums that come with fireworks and explosions left and right, but at the same time have all the foundations laid out firmly. It's those kinds of albums that made the list this year, but first I had to find them, because believe me when I say that there weren't a lot.

Six rookies to look out for in 2013

The acts on this list fall into one of those two categories -- acts who I think did a phenomenal job this year and deserve to get even bigger, and acts who I think have the potential to do well next year. These are the rookies who proved themselves, whether it be in one area or all, and managed to stand out.

[#1] Infinite - "The Chaser"

Infinite started out with material a cut above the rest of their fellow rookies and now that as permanent fixtures in K-Pop, they carry on with material that's a cut above everyone else. "The Chaser" is everything this list aims to put forward, and everything that I, as a critic, want from a song.

[#2] Ailee (with Simon D) - "Shut Up"

This is what happens when you give a good song to a good singer and do a good job delivering it. This is what happens when people in the industry pull themselves together and do a good job because they genuinely want to. This, my friends, is called magic.

[July 31, 2010] MBC Music Core Highlights + Commentary

Why does it seem like all the music shows this weekend know I'm taking a BIG BIG BIIIIIG exam next week, so not a lot of acts show up and perform? The acts I recap, at least. I'm serious - there were only 6 performances today, usually I have to recap like 10 or 12. Not that I'm complaining or anything! Taeyang finally shows up again after a lul in promo, and Se7en made his comeback with a 2-song "suite". This was also Tiffay and Yuri's last episode as MCs/emcees. Awww.

[July 30, 2010] KBS Music Bank Highlights + Commentary

*pops confetti* YAY! It was between SHINee and Miss A, so I think you can guess who won by my reaction. Not that many performances, but that's 'coz Se7en didn't show up and I've stopped writing about Narsha. G.NA performed with yet another "special" guest, and Teen Top + Infinite had this collaboration. Which I didn't include, sorry.

BoA - Game

BoA is, and has become, a legend - in more ways that one. She's a legend in Korea because when she debuted she was a hit - a singing-dancing machine and LSM's favorite trainee, how could she not be? Then she went into the Japanese industry and actually succeeded - BoA is a name in Japan, not just some random word that sounds like a snake. But because of her success in Japan, she's kind of neglected her Korean career - she's a legend because she's only talked about in Korea, never heard or seen.

[July 25, 2010] SBS Inkigayo Highlights + Commentary

I'VE FINALLY COMPLETED ANOTHER WEEKEND OF RECAPS! *pops confetti* Let's finish things off with Inkigayo, and yes, Taeyang won again, SHINee made their comeback, and Super Junior finished off promo for Bonamana (the album).

[July 24, 2010] MBC Music Core Highlights + Commentary

I'll just get this out as fast as humanely possible - I have a BoA review to write! And most likely I'll be home late again tonight, so my Inki recap will come late too. Video credit for today's recap goes to CrazyCarrot250. Always brilliant. LOL.

[July 23, 2010] KBS Music Bank Highlights + Commentary

One of the main reasons why I'm still writing these recaps is because SHINee are back - if they weren't promoting Lucifer I'd stop writing and study. But nooooooo! Hahah. A rather "shocking" winner today and no, it wasn't SHINee. Hahah!

SHINee - Lucifer

Been so stressed lately, as you may know from my Tweets, but I think I need to write before I explode again. So here I am, with a SHINee review.
For some reason, SHINee have always been at the back of my mind whenever someone asks me which boybands I like - I always say DBSK and some other random boyband, but almost never SHINee. Now that I think about it though, they should very well be my second favorite boyband, actually. SHINee have the talent, the songs, the experience, the stage presence and the backing from a big three talent company - they are basically everything I want in a band. But I think a big factor in my non-acknowledgement of SHINee is the fact that when you say SM, I automatically say DBSK - not SHINee or SuJu, DBSK.

I'm so lazy and tired and stressed, apologies for the sub-par recap today. *sigh* Tags to follow. Video credit goes to UnknownCarrot150.

G.NA - I'll Back Off So You Can Live

*sigh* Yesterday was hell for me - 26 hours without electricity, 26 hours living in the stone age. Seriously, no hair dryer, internet, no telephone or cellphone lines, and for crap's sake it was too dark to study! Yes, I couldn't even study. All is well now, and I got out of class early today, so it's time to write about this very interesting song. At least my reaction's interesting.

[July 11, 2010] SBS Inkigayo Highlights + Commentary

Pretty much the same line-up as yesterday's MuCore, except for D-NA and Orange Caramel. Let's get straight to the recap, shall we?

[July 10, 2010] MBC Music Core Highlights + Commentary

*sigh* I know, I know, shoot me for not writing this last night - but I had this concert to watch with my mom! I didn't choose to go to that concert! So there.

Debuts from Girls' Day and Teen Top and comebacks from ZE:A, Black Pearl and Son Dambi. AND D-NA!!! Hahah.

[July 4, 2010] SBS Inkigayo Highlights + Commentary

Can you believe this is only the fourth time I've written a recap for Inki? Thank goodness the sound today wasn't as crap as usual. It was still bad, but we've all experienced worse so this is good enough. A lot of surprising observations today, even I was a little surprised that I think those. I'll stop blabbing now and get to the performances.

A truckload of new(ish) singles

I thought of the title before I actually got down to writing the post, and now that it's done I don't think this is that big a truckload. Oh well.

So I guess this means I'm back in full swing, right? Hmm. I'm trying to get myself out of kpop land, so this post has a mix of English and Korean singles. International, much? I'm trying, OK?! You know the drill, click "Read On".

Interview: Edei

It's been a while since my last interview, but I promise you, the interviews I'm expecting to put out in the next few weeks/months are big. And I mean BIG. For an idea of whose brains I'll be picking in the future, check my Twitter list of PRN exclusive interviews.
So Edei. I remember first coming across this girl back when she was still called Emma Deigman. Her claim to fame? Supporting GA on tour last year. Not bad, not bad at all. Well she's called Edei now, and she's got a new single - In My Bed. It's got spunk but it's polished - very Brit, reminds me of a younger Duffy. It's out on the 12th, and a full-length album to follow later this year.

[July 3, 2010] MBC Music Core Highlights + Commentary

I honestly really hope I live to see the light of an Inki recap tomorrow. But that's in the future - this is the present. MuCore today was surprisingly OK sound-wise. It wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't crap like before. Yayyy.

Taeyang made his "comeback" with a three-song suite, and Miss A debuted. But where in the world was D-NA today? The week I comeback is the week they don't perform on MuCore. *pouts* Oh well.

Son Dambi - Can't U See

When I listened to Can't U See this morning, I had no intention of gauging it on any musical criteria - I was pissed and I needed a nice mellow song to lift my spirits. It did the job, but I think any song would've been able to do that given my degree is distress and piss-off-ed-ness (LOL), so I better start getting musical now.

[July 2, 2010] KBS Music Bank Highlights + Commentary

YES, I'M BACK! It's been a long time since my last music show recap and I think I've almost forgotten how to do one of these posts, so cut me some slack today, will you? A lot has happened, I know, and the dynamics of the music shows have changed a lot since I last wrote a recap. Ugh. Anyway.

BoA - Identity

It's literally taken me months to sit myself down write a decent review for Identity, but this is what happens when I have an album I like so much - it's must harder to rationally think about why you like an album than why you don't like an album. I've gone through at least 5 drafts in the process of writing this review, listened to the album a gazillion times and I've even enlisted the expert opinion of my dear father (LOL) to accompany what I've already observed, so I think that should do.
