[#43] VIXX - "Error"

From: "Error"
Released: October
Territory: South Korea
Previous Best of Entries: 2012: [#32] "Starlight" / 2013: [#31] "다칠 준비가 돼 있어"
Other notable song(s) from 2014: "Wanna Be", "LUV", "SUNDAY MONDAY"

I can't really say I'm one hundred percent pleased with the way VIXX's repertoire is developing at the moment -- I'm probably part of the minority who really liked the direction their debut was pointing to. But I do see the appeal of a sound like this, and I'm happy they're seeing success with a sound they clearly carry very well.

"Error" isn't the classiest song, it's not the most well-produced this year, but it's a song that VIXX took and went places with. The production quality has significantly improved since "Starlight," but what's central to "Error"'s success is how they deliver it with conviction and creativity. There is a range of vocal techniques and sound -- from subdued verses to gritty rap, to sharp but not shrill choruses -- that turns "Error" into more than just your typical b-agency release.

"Error" will never be a Big 3 release, it's more in the realm of BEAST and U-Kiss, but as their performance on it has shown there's nothing wrong with that -- you can be just as technically proficient, just as creative. BEAST have done it in the past -- they've exceeded economic expectations by mastering the creative -- and now it's VIXX's turn.
